Week 1: Using the School Diary/ Organisation
Using the Macarthur Girls High School Diary:
Your diary is not just a way for you to carry around a copy of the school rules in your bag. It is a powerful communication tool that allows you to record your homework, it provides you with useful activities that you will undertake in PRIDE Time and it gives you a great deal of information that you will need to help you get the most out of your learning at Macarthur Girls.

Recording your homework:
When your teacher assigns homework to you in class you need to ensure that you record your homework into your school diary. A lot of students record their homework tasks in their workbooks, which makes it easy for you to forget that you have been assigned homework. Success at school comes as a result of being well organised and it is a great habit to write down your homework into your diary. That way all of your information is in the one place! This also helps your parents see what you are working on in class.
Communication between parents and teachers:
It is incredibly important for parents and teachers to be in regular communication with one another. While we have an annual Parent and Teacher Evening at the school, it is important that teachers have the opportunity to maintain contact with your parents or guardians. Your diary can be used by your teacher to pass on notes to your parents or guardians throughout the course of the year. Teachers and parents can be incredibly busy and it is often hard for them to find the time to communicate with one another. Encourage your parents to use your school diary as a communication tool.
PRIDE Activities:
PRIDE lessons involve diary activities one lesson per week; therefore it is essential that you bring your diary to school every day (as these activity days will vary from week to week). The activities focus on PRIDE values, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and are designed to further develop your learning.
Timetables/Maps/Organisation:
Even though this may be your second year at Macarthur Girls High School it is highly probable that there are some classrooms that you have never had a lesson is and have no idea where it is located. Your diary has a map of the school which, in addition to classroom locations, shows you where you need to go in the event of an evacuation or emergency. Your timetable will also be kept in your diary so it is essential that you keep your diary with you at all times (just in case you forget where and when you need to go).
